3-day SiD Fundamentals masterclass at UCo Utrecht. Learn systems thinking and systemic sustainability with Tom Bosschaert.

The world is changing. You see the patterns, you sense the connections, but how do you actually work with them? How do you turn systems thinking into strategies that hold up in the real world?

This 3-day masterclass equips you with a practical toolbox for exactly that. Based on Except's Symbiosis in Development (SiD) framework, refined across 500+ projects over 25 years, the course teaches the fundamentals of systemic sustainability: how to map complex challenges, find leverage points, and design integrated solutions.

The masterclass is taught by Tom Bosschaert, founder of Except and creator of SiD, at UCo Utrecht. You leave with a SiD Fundamentals Certificate and the capacity to apply systems thinking in your own work.

This course is a must have for every professional working in the field of sustainable development.

What you will learn

Over three days, you collaborate in multidisciplinary teams while working with the SiD framework: the first complete framework for systemic sustainability, combining systems thinking, system mapping, design thinking, complexity theory, and co-creation.

Map complex challenges and identify leverage points for change
Interpret systemic behaviors in society and how they relate to sustainability transitions
Re-frame success in sustainability projects beyond single-metric KPIs
Design integrated strategies and roadmaps for systemic impact
Apply SiD principles and tools to your own real-world case

The course covers systems thinking, resilience theory, ESG frameworks, circular economy, participatory planning, and how these connect into a coherent practice.

Business leaders, project managers, consultants, concept developers, researchers, and anyone working at the intersection of sustainability and strategy. No prior systems thinking experience required.
