For Eneco Wind, we visualized the local impacts of wind turbine development in a visual infographic. The graphic is used by Eneco Wind in conversations with local stakeholders and helps to guide the conversation to address all topics and impacts. Using the illustration to steer the conversation, all parties become well informed before deciding on wind turbine development. Eneco Wind aims to increase support for wind energy by providing truthful and complete information from local stakeholders.

The context of the project

Local resistance to wind turbines can lead to delays, costs increase, and unhappy residents. Eneco Wind experiments with strategies to empower residents and ensure they're critical shareholders in the economic revenues of wind energy to gain local support.

Eneco Wind strives to transform from an 'outside developer of wind energy into a 'community development company through energy projects.' Communication with residents and stakeholders about the impact of wind energy is therefore essential.

Infographic development

To facilitate the conversation between stakeholders and stimulate discussion, we created an infographic that addresses all relevant impacts of wind turbine development. The visualization shows direct and indirect stakeholders and provides thematic starting points for conversations with stakeholders.

The graphic pays attention to socio-economic impacts, such as ( local ) employment and changing real estate and energy prices. Environmental considerations are included as well, for example, air, horizon, and noise pollution. In addition, local and national politics are included in the visualization because of their role in developing wind energy projects.
