What steps does a dedicated company take when it strives to deepen its sustainability efforts in the industry? This question came to life when Pizza 4P's, known for their commitment to sustainable practices in South-East Asia, partnered with us to enhance their strategic approach.

The Challenge

As a restaurant chain rooted in the philosophy of "Delivering Wow, Sharing Happiness," Pizza 4P’s sought to enhance their operational sustainability and to become a transformative force within the food and beverage (F&B) industry. The challenge was to develop a comprehensive sustainability strategy that would align with their core mission—'For Peace'—and drive impactful change on a global scale, and for a long time.

Our Approach

The project commenced in September 2023 with an intensive engagement process, beginning with assembling a team, and providing training in the fundamentals in SiD systemic sustainability and roadmapping.

This was followed by several months of joint data collection, analysis, and preparation of the strategy and roadmapping co-creation. Subsequently, a three-day co-creation workshop held in Ho Chi Minh City brought everything together.

Key stakeholders from Pizza 4P’s, including CEOs Masuko and Sanae, Sustainability Manager Thu, and CFO Bui Tuong Anh, collaborated closely with Except’s CEO Tom Bosschaert and Vietnam Country Director Chi Nguyen and the 4P’s core strategy team.

This workshop marked the initial phase of the Symbiosis in Development (SiD) framework, a holistic approach that integrates systems thinking into sustainability strategies. This involved:

  • Team Training: Equipping the Pizza 4P’s leadership team with the knowledge and tools to drive sustainable change.
  • Data and Trend Analysis: Building robust datasets and conducting comprehensive analyses of market trends and sustainability precedents.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Mapping and analyzing the influence of various stakeholders, ensuring their perspectives were integrated into the sustainability strategy.
  • Market Analysis: Assessing current and future market conditions to identify opportunities and risks.
  • Vision and Roadmap Development: Co-creating a 15-year sustainability roadmap that aligns with Pizza 4P’s mission and positions them as leaders in regenerative practices.

Outcomes

The outcome is a strengthened core strategy for the organization, used to tap into new development pathways, and messaging. Furthermore, the outline of a long term roadmap was established, providing the beginning of a management implementation of this multi-year development plan.

The roadmap touches on all aspects of operations—from energy and water management to biodiversity, regenerative agriculture, and community development.

A core theme throughout the project was the pursuit of happiness, both as a guiding principle and as an actionable outcome. By embedding this ethos into their sustainability framework, Pizza 4P’s aims to inspire joy and wellbeing through their business practices, making ‘For Peace’ more than just a name—it’s a way of doing business.

The journey towards sustainability is a continuous process of learning, adaptation, and innovation. Pizza 4P’s commitment to this journey, coupled with their willingness to invest in transformative initiatives, exemplifies their leadership in the industry.
